2007 Mollydooker Wines Announce Exceptional Vintage Now Available Online in the USA - Winery Direct
McLaren Vale, South Australia (PRWEB) September 1, 2008 -- Sarah & Sparky Marquis are proud to announce the release of their newest vintage of Mollydooker Wines. The quality of the vintage is exceptional; their 2007 Velvet Glove and Carnival of Love Shiraz have already been chosen as "Classic Wines" by Wine Spectator. However there won't be any of these wines available next year.
Starting today, US consumers can order the new 2007 vintage wines on Mollydooker's USA website (www.mollydookerwines.com). The wine is shipped from the Mollydooker warehouse in California's wine country, making delivery of these exceptional wines easy and relatively inexpensive for people in many states. Customers are being encouraged to place their orders early since, due to the drought, production is down by about 50%, and last year many wines sold out immediately after release.
"The 2007 wines are incredible" says Sparky Marquis, who together with his wife Sarah, is Mollydooker's owner and winemaker. Unfortunately, our total production is down about 50% from last year because of drought conditions in Australia. However, the grapes we produced were so good that a relatively large portion attained the rare 95 Marquis Fruit Weight? grading, which means we were able to produce more Velvet Glove Shiraz than last year."
Mollydooker measures the quality of their grapes and wine through an objective grading system based on the measurement of Marquis Fruit Weight?. Marquis Fruit Weight? is the measure of the percentage of your palate that's covered by the "velvety sensation of fruit before any of the other structural components (tannin, acid or alcohol) are exposed". The higher the Fruit Weight for any given wine, the higher its quality. In order for a wine to even be considered for Mollydooker, it must achieve a minimum of 65% Fruit Weight.
"In some ways we wish every vintage could be like this. Even though yields were down, quality and Fruit Weight were up." says Sarah Marquis, owner and winemaker with husband Sparky. "However, we already know that we will not be making Velvet Glove, Carnival of Love and Enchanted Path for the 2008 vintage because due to the intense heat wave during harvest in McLaren Vale we had less grapes acheive a high enough Marquis Fruit Weight?."
Mollydooker fans will be pleased to know that the popular "Lefty Wines" priced at $25 a bottle with a Marquis Fruit Weight? of 65-70%, are better than ever in this spectacular vintage. The Lefty Wines include The Boxer Shiraz, Two Left Feet Blend, The Maitre D' Cabernet Sauvignon, The Scooter Merlot and The Violinist Verdelho. Sparky Marquis is glowing about the 2007 vintage, commenting that fans will be blown away with the quality and power of the wines.
The Mollydooker "Party Wines" which have attained a Marquis Fruit Weight of 75-80%, include Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz and Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon and are priced at $55 per bottle. The Mollydooker "Love Wines" include Enchanted Path Shiraz/Cabernet and the award-winning Carnival of Love Shiraz, are priced at $90 per bottle and have attained a Marquis Fruit Weight? Grading of 85-90%. Last year, the Carnival of Love was awarded the number 8 position in Wine Spectator's "Top 100" Wines of the Year. Sarah says "This year it is even better, because the fruit was so intense."
The 2007 Velvet Glove Shiraz, Australian cult wine phenomenon, is priced at $185 per bottle. Last year the 2006 Velvet Glove Shiraz was awarded 99 points by Robert Parker and 97 points by Wine Spectator magazine.
