The Poynter Institute Unveils Web Site Redesign of Poynter Online
St. Petersburg, Fla. (PRWEB) August 24, 2008 -- The Poynter Institute, a school for professional journalists and media leaders, has launched a redesign of its Web site, Poynter Online (www.poynter.org). Already one of the most popular journalism Web sites in the country, the redesigned site features improved navigation, new content and look, and Poynter Groups, an online network designed to facilitate greater interaction and conversation among users.
"Our goals for the new site were to make it more current, more effective and more engaging," says Poynter Online editor Julie Moos. "We publish over a dozen new posts daily with the latest industry news, new media developments and story resources. The new site features that material more prominently. We believe a cleaner look, clearer hierarchy and a new search results display will make it easier for people to find what they need more quickly."
The Poynter Online home page features topical, timely stories and links to such popular columns as "Romenesko," "Al's Morning Meeting," and "Ask the Recruiter." Left rail highlights include links to "Most Recent Articles" and Poynter training options, including on-site and online seminars and Webinars. The Poynter Career Center and its featured jobs, employer postings and professional coaching services remain easily accessed from the right rail.
Another highlight of the new site is a sharper focus on content intended to help journalists navigate a rapidly changing industry. Recent editorial additions include "The Biz Blog" by Poynter media analyst Rick Edmonds tracking journalism trends and business developments. Poynter's Jill Geisler writes "SuperVision," which focuses on leadership issues and managing through newsroom change, and Poynter's Sara Quinn focuses on best practices in design, online interactivity and visual storytelling with her weekly "Visual Voice" column.
Brand new to the site is Poynter Groups, an online networking service created to enhance user engagement by enabling journalists to explore a variety of issues and communicate with one another about everything from coverage tips to job changes. "Networking by and with readers and viewers is one of the most interesting ways journalism is changing," says Poynter Online director Bill Mitchell. "We created Poynter Groups to encourage that kind of interaction among users of Poynter Online."
Mitchell adds: "These are critical times for journalism. We hope the new Poynter Online will stir some of the collaboration it will take for journalism to survive and thrive."
Poynter Online's redesign has been in the works for more than a year. It has included research and testing among users and ongoing discussion of the process on the site's Poynterevolution blog (http://poynter.org/poynterevolution).
Led by Mitchell, the Poynter Online redesign team includes of several key players: Julie Moos, Poynter Online Editor; Jeremy Gilbert, Managing Editor, Innovation; Ellyn Angelotti, Interactivity Editor; Colleen Eddy, Director, Poynter Career Center; Steve Myers, News Editor; Mallory Tenore, Naughton Fellow; and Sandy Johnakin, Administrative Assistant.
Poynter Online first launched its Internet presence in 1994. Today the site attracts about 300,000 unique visitors a month, generating about 2 million page views. Poynter Online is the industry's daily destination for news and conversation about journalism.

Google Adsense Profits Mixed In With Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing has become one of the most effective ways to advertise online. It is also one of the easiest ways for anyone with a website to make a profit online. Affiliate Marketing is an agreement between a merchant and a website owner. The website owner, or the affiliate, allows the use of their site for the promotion of the merchant's products by linking to the merchant's website. In exchange, the merchant pays a commission to the affiliate on all sales generated by the affiliate. Every time someone clicks on the link on the affiliate website and proceeds to make a purchase, the affiliate gets a commission. The merchant will pay the affiliate only when a customer clicks on the product link and makes a purchase.
