Employers Now Subjected to New I-9 Compliance Laws - Power Training Institute Offering Free Tour of New Online Course in I-9 Responsibility

On November 7, 2007 The Department of Homeland Security published a new Form I-9 and a companion employer handbook. Recent case law illustrates the necessity for employers to provide training to its associates on how to prevent all forms of workplace harassment and discrimination. Such court rulings indicate employers' potential liability for punitive damages. Simply speaking, courts rule in the favor of employees and award large settlements to punish employers for wrong doings. Courts, in defining "good faith efforts," stated the purposes underlying Title VII are advanced when employers adopt antidiscrimination policies and educate their personnel on Title VII's prohibitions. Federal court decisions all across the US have shown that to avoid liability and punitive damages in harassment and discrimination lawsuits, employers must educate their employees on how to avoid all forms of workplace harassment and discrimination.
